Carnival Youth release satirical music video

Latvian indie rock band Carnival Youth return with a satirical music video for their latest pop-leaning single “Sunshine” which came out in June.

The song contrasts two parallel worlds that are also portrayed in the video - it is about the ups and downs that continue to follow one another. As Latvian poet Imants Ziedonis has said - “Life is a sinusoid”.

"This has not been an easy period for creating music but, at the same time, a crucial one. What seemed self-evident has now become a utopia,” says Roberts Vanags of Carnival Youth. “There is a desire for light, for a mental safe space called “Sunshine”, where everyone feels good and there is nothing to be afraid of”.

The official music video is directed by Reinis Spaile who also worked on Carnival Youth's first-ever video for their single "Never Have Enough". The video tells a story about an unhappy cowboy who goes on a journey through a magic tube and ends up in a utopian corporation that helps depressed people.

"I wanted the video to be an exciting and surprising journey that compliments the sense of adventure that the song carries," says Reinis. "I wanted this journey to not stick to hard logic and have a lightness to it, so visually, we mixed several genres and achieved a collage effect. The story of the video is simple, but I think it is very important to learn to find the right ways away from depression and look at the world with eyes full of wonder. That's the power of the song "Sunshine" - it lifts the mood!"

After over 100 shows played in Latvia in the past two years, in July 2022, Carnival Youth returned to Europe with their first tour in France, playing shows in places like Le Supersonic in Paris, Le Groom in Lyon and others.

The Latvian indie band Carnival Youth is one of the most successful new generation bands from the Baltic region, as proved by The European Border Breakers award they received at Eurosonic 2016.

Carnival Youth fuse neat melodic lines with the energy of alternative rock and indie music, while their emotion range varies from youthful melancholia to pure, bright joy.

Since the formation of the band in 2012, Carnival Youth have released five records – “Never Have Enough” EP, “No Clouds Allowed”, "Propeller", "Vienā vilcienā" (with songs in Latvian) and the latest one - “Good Luck”. These records and their dynamic live performances have granted Carnival Youth a growing fan base all over Europe and critical acclaim.
