With “The xx” – one of the world’s most recognised British bands, highly regarded by music critics – Sunset Festival starts announcing the program of this summer.
This summer in Sigulda Castle at least 4 worldwide artist shows are being planned, in each both local and foreign new artists are expected to perform. The next big names will be announced on Friday, March 3rd.
This will be the second year of Sunset Festival, but the festival originates in 2015, when jazz legend Richard Bona and extravagant British singer Roisin Murphy performed in Sigulda Castle.
Last Summer already two events with world-class artists took place in Sigulda Castle. A sold out first day on July 3 with an Irish singer’s and songwriter’s Damien Rice’s performance on top, and July 6 British rock band James were gathering Sigulda city resdidents and guests. In both festival days there were local artists performing as well, a few of them from Sigulda city, for example singer and songwriter Kārlis Kazāks and bands Neon Saturdays and ZigZag.
Sunset Festival stands out from other Latvian festivals with an emphasis on the enjoyment of music in an unusual atmosphere and high-quality entertainment to people of different ages.
It is possible that a part of ordinary listeners got to know electronic indie rock trio The xx only this winter with their fenomenally popular hit On Hold (#1 UK, #2 USA; within TOP 10 in Latvia). Song is included in the album I See You, which is the third album from the band. It was released on January 13th and it is already the second album from The xx which has climbed to the first position in the UK top. The same success was the first album xx in 2009, while the second one named Coexist (2012) was in the 5th place. In 2010 The xx received the prestige Mercury prize and in 2011 the band was nominated to BRIT award even in three categories.
With their newest accomplishment gentle, R&B affected indie poprock, which has become the bands signature, supplemented richly with basses and house music beats. In a number of songs etherial guitar chords and as if timidly vocals are replaced with very convincing performance. It is reflected in music critics’ reviews which were laudatory about band’s style and originality in the beginning, but now they are talking about the trio affecting music development globally.
Public tickets are ON SALE from March 6, 10.00 AM. To every show day there will be ONLY 4000 tickets available!
