On August 9th Sunset Festival 2017 continues its Summer program with New Zealand’s indie-pop and electro-rock band The Naked and Famous (TNAF).
The band is rightly regarded as New Zealand’s musical sensation. Already with their debut album Passive Me, Agressive You (2011) the formation gained a significant recognition and soon made a name for themselves outside of New Zealand’s and Australian musical borders.
Cheerful exciting pop, with mix of indie, moody post-punk of the 80’s and a teaspoon of electro-rock, those all features have become the quintet’s signiture.
The band’s is led by its core Alisa and Thom, whose vocals, keyboards and guitars, and of course creative interaction are the main driving forces.
Authoritative music magazine NME describes the band’s records: “A classic case of lovely and beautiful: TNAF’s passive melodicism and aggressive innovation clash in a dazzling blaze of psych/sonic fireworks”.
So far the band have released 3 albums and Young Blood, Punching In A Dream, Girls Like You, Hearts Like Ours, A Stillness, I Kill Giants, Higher etc. are the most known hits.
Warm-up acts will be delivered by Latvian musician Chris Noah and electro-synth pop band “Audience Killers”
Chris Noah made his debut in 2016 with a single “Had It All” that instantly became popular and made it to a regular rotation in the biggest radio stations. In 2017 he released his first EP “What About Tomorrow?”. This summer Chris Noah has participated un Latvia’s biggest festival and is considered to be one of the best debuts in Latvian music.
Audience Killers are a synthpop/electropop band from Latvia, formed in 2010. – Three friends from childhood town in their early 20s, who’s music features ethereal group vocals, bright piano and warm synths used throughout the songs, fitting with its buoyant, shore-crashing feel. All amalgamated with a sincere calling towards the dancefloor – but not quite.
The trio have released a series of singles and the EP on 2012. The band has performed at festivals throughout Europe include: ‘The Great Escape’ (UK), ‘Positivus’ (LV), ‘Reeperbahn Festival’ (DE), ‘Tallinn Music Week’ (EE) ‘Karklė’ (LT), ‘Vilnius Music Week’ (LT) and more.
Today, the exciting trio return, with the news of their debut album, and next single ‘Patterns‘, which gives a strong indication of the band’s potential.
The aim of “Sunset Festival” is to develop high quality culture event outside of the capital, which attracts people from Latvia and neighbor countries. This will be the second year of the festival and there will be held 3 worldwide known artist concerts in unique Sigulda Castle. Considering venue’s capacity there will be only 4000 tickets on sale to each festival day.
Sunset Festival stands out from other Latvian festivals with an emphasis on the enjoyment of music in an unusual atmosphere and high-quality entertainment to people of different ages.
Previously, on July 31, Jessie Ware performed with a show within the festival and the festival finishes with “The xx” on August 15th.
