“Art of Riga Jazz” winter concert sessions opened yesterday, on November 30 with a modern jazz maestro Bill Laurence’s workshop and a sold-out solo concert at the Latvian Radio Studio 1.
During the morning workshop Bil shared stories and his experience about piano, music and composing, giving insight in creation of his first solo album and finding his own voice. The musician revealed that many people associate his music with traveling, which he finds particularly interesting as many of his compositions, for example „Money in the Desert” from his first album „Flint”, were created as he himself was travelling.
In his evening performance Bil Laurence took the audience for a journey in the sound of piano performing compositions from his latest solo album „Aftersun”. As he explained, he had integrated different music traditions in his music. Skilfully blending together elements of jazz, pop and classical music, Laurence delivered an incredibly heart felt performance that moved everyone in the audience and ended the night with standing ovations.
Someone from the audience said “This is definitely one of the best solo concerts I have ever heard. I was suprised by the extremely skilfull performance of Laurence – I did not expect anythin that inspiring”. After the concert Laurence admitted that he was very pleased to play for such a responsive audience and was very happy about the whole experience.
Today we invite you to the music house “Daile” at 19:00 for a memorable performance of guitar virtuoso Lionel Loueke playing together with guitarist Roberto Cechetto and drummer Nasheet Waits!
