Tallinn Music Week presents the first international songwriting camp in Baltics
The city festival Tallinn Music Week (TMW), Music Estonia and Estonian song contest Eesti Laul will organize a first professional songwriting camp in Baltics on 30th and 31st March.
Ben Malén, an experienced Swedish Music Publisher and exporter curates the camp. Malén is excited to be part of the first ever songwriting camp in the region.
“The Swedish songwriter’s ongoing global success is known to many of us. From the US chartbusters written and produced by Max Martin and Shellback to the Swedish song invasion of the Japanese and Korean charts. One of the secrets behind the success is networking and learning the importance of collaboration. Writing camps have for a long time been the perfect introductury tool for writers taking the step into the international songwriting market. Our aim is to make the Tallin camp into an exciting meeting point for Estonian and International writers to make new friends and create great music,” says Ben.
Songwriters and producers from Estonia and neighbouring countries are invited to join the camp. 16 selected songwriters will have the opportunity to co-work and create new music together with 8 international professionals. The writers will be divided into 8 teams that include one experienced song-writing mentor and 2 top regional writers. The teams will work together with recording artists and record their tunes in camp. By the end of the two-day writing-working-demo recording camp each team presents as many songs as they have created at a panel of Tallinn Music Week Conference.
Malén, who has organized successful camps for more than ten years, will be joined by Julie Thompson (UK), who has worked with many EDM artists and Grammy nominated DJ Tiesto and creators of Nordic pop repertoire Erik Sahlén, Joel Isaksson and Oskar Nyman.
Producer of Eesti Laul (Estonian pre-contest for the Eurovision SC) Mart Normet is excited: “This is going to be an explosion! A creative explosion! Estonian music has experienced a few big bangs already but this unprecedented cooperation event at the end of March will bring our songwriters and artists even closer to an international breakthrough.”
Applications for the songwriting camp can be submitted until 15th February.
