Over the next two weekends the first ‘Osokin’s Mini Festival @152’ will take place in Riga and offer the audience a unique musical program. In the new music centre acoustic performances will be given by favourite artists in Latvia – Chris Noah, Katrīna Gupalo, Rihards Lībietis, Vladislavs Nastavševs, and – of course – Andrejs Osokins himself.
Pianist Andrejs Osokins has had the idea about organizing the festival for several years, and it has finally materialized as a reunion celebration with his audience. “Each music lover will receive the quintessence of art in a concentrated way – a shock dose of culture and music after the prolonged break of silence. Every evening we will create a special atmosphere for our dear audience on the excellent Yamaha instruments”, – says the pianist Andrejs Osokins.
The first day of the festival, May 29, will offer an acoustic concert by Chris Noah and Katrīna Gupalo featuring original compositions by both young musicians. Tickets for May 29.
In 2018 Chris Noah began a collaboration with British record producer Christopher Harris (worked with Bear’s Den, Belle and Sebastian, Ghostpoet, etc.) and recorded three songs – “River”, “Fall Through” and “Inside Out”. With the release of these songs, Chris Noah’s music began to be noticed by international music blogs (Indie Air, AlexRainBirdMusic, Wolf In a Suit, Uranium Music, Purple Melon Mystic Sons, Music Injection) and “Fall Through” became the most played song on Latvia’s radio stations. In 2019 Chris Noah performed a sold-out solo show at the National Library of Latvia and signed a record deal with “Made in Baltics” / “Sony Music Entertainment”, under which the EP “Distance” was released on March 20, year 2020.
Katrīna Gupalo started working as a songwriter and performer in 2018. Since then, she has warmed up the British soul music diva Emily Sandé at the Palladium Riga Concert Hall, went on her first USA concert tour “From the Baltics to the Atlantic”, performed at the festival “Laima Vaikule Rendez – Vous Jūrmala 2018” in Dzintari Concert Hall, she was also in the semi-finals of Supernova 2018 song competition (Latvian song competition for Eurovision song contest) with her own song “Intoxicating Caramel”, and together with the band “The Black Birds” released an album “Gentle and Done” with 11 original songs in English. In the summer released song “Skirt?” (Svārki?) caused extensive discussions and resonance in the Latvian media, while her version of Imants Kalniņš’s song “Wrap Your Arms” (“Apvij rokas”) won the love of the audiences, both in the released recording and in live performances at Christmas concerts in Ķīpsala Hall, for voice and piano parts in it.
Andrejs Osokins is a laureate of the world’s most important international pianist competitions – the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, the Margarita Long and Jacques Tibo Competition in Paris, the Leeds Competition, the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels and the International Piano Forum. According to critics of the London newspaper “The Independent”, the pianist has “a mesmerising personality appeal, a wide and expressive colour palette of sound, as well as an unusually convincing sense of different styles of music”.
On Sunday, May 31, virtuoso musicians – guitarist Rihards Lībietis and cellist Erna Daugaviete – will perform together. Tickets for May 31.
Rihards Lībietis (guitar) and Erna Daugaviete (cello) play together on a daily basis in the quintet “Rihards Lībietis Orchestra,” which performs a wide range of world music with influences from blues, jazz and Middle Eastern folk music. A harmonious cello and guitar duo that will take you on a temperamental and at the same time peaceful sensual journey through the vastness of imagination.
On June 5 Vladislav Nastvshev and Katrina Gupalo will perform theatre music programme. Tickets for June 5.
Katrīna Gupalo is one of the most extraordinary Latvian musicians – owner of a strong and sensual voice, composer, pianist, creator and producer of musical performances. Thanks to her education in three different fields of art – piano, vocal and theater, Katrīna is able to conjure an unusual, expressive and extremely sensual world on stage.
Vladislavs Nastavshevs is a theatre director, musician and composer. One of his creative style features is the integrity of the idea and the organic fusion of all the design elements of the performance, as the director often also works as a set designer and composer. But Vladislav Nastavshev’s talent has another side: he performs his own songs, including songs from plays.
Wine bar “Garage” will provide guests of the festival with the opportunity to enjoy elegant wine during concerts.
A limited number of tickets are available – each concert is able to accommodate only 20 listeners. All national safety measures will be observed during the event.
