Saxophonist, flutist, composer, producer, Liepāja Big Band leader Deniss Pashkevich releases new jazz album “Reflections”.
The album was recorded in Riga, in the Latvian Radio recording studio together with one of the most outstanding Finnish jazz trumpet players Mikko Gunu Karjalainen. It contains original music by the group’s leaders and visionaries Deniss Pashkevich and Mikko Gunas Karjalainen as well as compositions by pianist Madars Kalniņš. The style of the album is modern jazz in the best traditions of this genre.
When discussing the album “Reflections” Deniss Pashkevich says: “It is the language of today’s music. It is a great pleasure to have this cooperation with musicians with whom we have represented Latvian jazz music on the same stage and on many records internationally around the world. This album is a logical continuation of the journey. The collaboration with the outstanding Finnish colleague – trumpet player Mikko Guna Karjalainen has been excellent.

Leading musicians of the Latvian jazz scene have all participated in the recording of “Deniss Pashkevich and Mikko Gunu Karjalainen Quintet” this way continuing the long-term cooperation of Pashkevich with such artists as the pianist Madars Kalniņš and double bassist Andris Grunte. New generation jazz drummer Jānis Jaunalksnis also participated in the recording of the album.
The record publisher is “Riga Room Records” that continues Deniss Pashkevich’s long-standing jazz music publishing, previously represented under such names as “DenissJazz” and “Ze Pirats”.
Deniss Pashkevich is one of the leading Baltic jazz musicians. His album “Variations” is highlighted in one of the most influential jazz music editions in the world – “Downbeat” where it is included as one of the best jazz albums in 2019. Deniss Pashkevich is one of the few artists in the Baltic region who is included in the European Jazz family tree where he is mentioned as the founder of his own, unique style in Latvia.
