From 29 to 31 July for the fifth consecutive year the international street culture and sports event Ghetto Games Festival will take place in Ventspils starting a new tradition, where five young people was elected as festival ambassadors!

Ghetto Games Festival in Ventspils is the best destination for the weekend for the whole family – this year the city has taken special care of it, so each family member would experience different activities! The best part is the fact that the festival’s attendance is completely free! Amusement and racing spots for both professional and amateur athletes, and active sports fans – for three days Ventspils city will turn into a sports star epicentre, where will be able to see world-class athletes from 25 countries!

Ghetto Games leader Raimonds Elbakjans highlighted Ventspils as the head of extreme sports and were impressed by the Ventspils City Council President Aivars Lembergs idea of Ghetto Games as the Latvian Olympics of extreme sports: “The competition is the best motivator for municipalities, to build a better infrastructure and to develop extreme sports area!”

The Ghetto Games festival (or simply GGFEST) is a youth culture and action sports festival that annually brings together the world’s most notable action sports athletes to the hospitable city of Ventspils. This year we will bring together 1500 participants in different 17 sports from 25 countries. An especially impressive show can be expected at the BMX Freestyle and Inline skating competitions. Nearly a hundred of modern day top extreme athletes will compete. Europe’s best will be joined by athletes by guests from USA, Australia and Canada.

In addition to all the action sports activities, which include skateboarding, BMX freestyle, inline skating, streetbike freestyle, there will be tournaments in a bit less extreme but equally exciting sports – international tournaments of street basketball, street floorball, street football along with competitions of street dance, arm-wrestling, powerlifting and the „Baltic Open” Street Workout Championship.

This year, Ghetto Games Festival has started a new tradition by announcing an international contest in which every young person has the opportunity to be in the event epicentre, and show himself as a reporter, spending three days together with the festival’s stars – inline champions Nils Jansons & Josh Glowicki, world skateboard star Madars Apse, the best Eastern stunt-rider Joona Vatanen and Ghetto Games creative director and host Renars Zeltins.

Ghetto Games team chose five youngsters who will be the first to see and report the legendary moments of the festival with the new technologies presented by Latvian mobile company BITE.

“Ghetto Games is a platform for every young talent development – we want to find our next Renars Zeltins!” commented Laura Dabare, Ghetto Games Communication Manager.
