Funk and soul music festival “Juu Jääb” will celebrate its 20th birthday!

From 28 June till 3 July Estonian jazz, funk and soul music festival “Juu Jääb” will celebrate its twentieth birthday. The Festival will take place in Baltic islands of Saaremaa and Muhu, and there is going to be a special guest – legendary British-based DJ, record collector and record label owner Gilles Peterson.

“This is the jazz world heavyweight`s performance that Estonia waited for 20 years. Peterson has produced numbers of world-renowned musicians. In 2014 he won the “Best World Music Radio Show” award and several times was awarded for an outstanding contribution to dance music,” says the festival organizer Villu Veski. In addition to the radio broadcast “BBC 6 Music”, Peterson runs weekly program about global music, which is broadcasted in seven countries, including Shanghai and Ukraine.

“Juu Jääb” is one of the traditionally richest festivals in Estonia. It is organized by legendary saxophonist Villu Veski. Last year festival was included in European importance festival program`s list, which was created by European Festivals Association. The festival, which takes place since 1997, first was a small cultural event and later turned into one of the region’s most exciting modern cultural festivals. Visual art has been added to the diverse mix of musical projects.

For many years, “Juu Jääb” has been the place where meet thousands of talented artists and great music lovers. “Juu Jääb” provides an opportunity to get rid of the daily routine and urban stress in surprisingly intimate rural cottage surroundings. Artists perform an eclectic program ranging from traditional and new jazz to electro, tango and salsa.
