Headliners of the first Riga Music Festival this spring comes from two countries: driving force of the British electronic band Faithless Sister Bliss with a DJ set, as well as Way Out West legendary member Jody Wisternoff, plus German electronic music stars Timo Maas and Nick Curly. Other artist to play at the festival that will take place in “Palladium Riga” on March 2nd and 3rd are Franky Rizardo (Netherlands), Elekfantz (Brasil), Fell Reis (Ibiza), and locals Janis Krauklis, Electricano, Taran & Lomov and Barseghian.
“Two-day festival in the sleepless Riga at the epic “Palladium”! Ten quality DJ acts performing in a massive technical production! – says event promoter Fredrik Jørgensen from Octopus Events. – Riga Music Festival is being arranged for the first time in 2018. The aim is to do this as a returning event each year and build it huge. This first time we want to make it in a smaller arena, so it will be exclusive and intimate.”
Sister Bliss is a driving force behind world famous electronic UK band Faithless known for such a Top 10 hit singles as “Insomnia”, “Salva Mea”, “We Come 1”, “God Is a DJ”, “One Step Too Far” with total sales exceeding 15 million records worldwide. The band announced its split in April 2011. However, in February 2015, they reunited to celebrate the 20th anniversary. On the Friday night, March 2nd, Sister Bliss will open phase one of her Faithless DJ sets tour at the Riga Music Festival.
Other artist of the first festival day will be Timo Maas and Nick Curly from Germany. Timo Maas has been on a 30-year quest to deliver his musical wizardry to the world. His international recognition began with his seminal remix of “Dooms Night” by Azzido Da Bass. Adopted by the UK’s garage scene, it launched him on to the world stage and he was soon being courted by a plethora of superstars from Madonna to Depeche Mode and Fatboy Slim to Muse.
Nick Curly has now been defining the sound of the underground for ten whole years. The varied and vital artist has established a number of labels in that time, including the era-defining Cecille Records. Currently he is focused on 8Bit. Latvia on the Friday night will be represented by the legendary Janis Krauklis, who is one of characters in the new documentary “Era of Dance” along with Westbam and Derrick Carter, and is widely known as a pioneer of the electronic music movement in the ex-USSR; as well as well as stirring duo Taran & Lomov from Riga who continue popularizing electronic music in the last two decades through their label Amber Muse Records, parties, radio shows and online mag testpress.news.
Line-up of the Saturday night at the Riga Music Festival promises truly international experience. First of all, Jody Wisternoff of the prolific Bristol music scene will play his set. Jody’s career started at the very early age of 13 years when he and his brother Sam prodigiously reached the finals of the DMC HipHop Championship. He also widely has known as Way Out West member which he founded with Nick Warren. One of his significant roles today is an A&R development for Anjunadeep. The Netherland’s scene will be represented by the young, but very popular Franky Rizardo: he began from producing a weekly radio shows on Slam!FM, and known today for releases on Defected Records and Simma Black, as well as for running his own LTF Records. Visitors of the Saturday night will also see the duo from overseas – Elekfantz from Brazil. The Latin American electronic music scene is one of the most exciting in the world today, and Elekfantz are among its finest techno members, who records for D.O.C. label curated by Gui Boratto. Two other Latvian DJs behind the decks that night will be resident of club “Teritorija” in Riga – Electricano and Barseghian.
Tickets price until February the 26th: festival weekend pass – €40, one-day ticket – €25. Later these will become more expensive: €50 and €30 respectively. The VIP-tickets are available at €250. These will give an access to pre-parties which will take place both days from 6pm to 9pm and will be hosted by Fell Reis (Ibiza) with free alcoholic drinks and simple snack served; as well as access to the VIP-area at “Palladium Riga” third floor during the festival.
