“Part of me wants to dominate the world, the other part wants to run and hide”
Multifaceted artist DAIVA is forging her way to the top with the releasing of her breakout solo single and music video ‘MESH’. The song is a collaboration with fellow producer Jonas Drema with the name ‘MESH’ inspired out of respect and love for the bass player-songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello.
East London based, Vilnius born singer, rapper and producer, DAIVA, started singing before she could talk. Growing up in Lithuania, DAIVA was uncommonly drawn to the more American sounds of J Dilla, Lauryn Hill, Joni Mitchell and Prince. DAIVA incorporates these soulful influences into her music by blending them with the ethereal sounds of her homeland and the culturally diverse vibrations of London to create a modern mix of R&B, pop, urban, and jazz.
Of the track, DAIVA comments: “The whole thing is like a private diary entry – it’s incredibly honest, it’s basically me arguing with myself, forcing me to face my fears and interrogating myself on whether I should give up! Run and hide… or breakthrough and chase my dream. I rap what makes sense to me. Money, cars and bitches were never gonna make it out of my mouth.”
The video paired with this release was shot with longtime collaborator DOP Deivis Nutautas whilst sailing through the streets of Vilnius at night. Of the video ”We shot it as a back and forth between the complacency of the everyday and the dream of something more to it all”
DAIVA got her footing in music by way of the ground breaking ensemble Keymono and Lithuanian supergroup Saulės Kliošas before going solo. She has amassed over 100k views on YouTube, supported celebrated artists like Gotan Project, Snoop Dogg, Chris Potter in addition to performing on the iconic stages of Roundhouse, Scala, Rivoli Ballroom, headlining festivals including Tallinn Music Week, Nisville and others.
