Musicians from the Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and other leading European symphonic orchestras will be brought together in Latvia for the first time, at Festival Sensus.
Feel it. Something beautiful, real, intangible. Something difficult to describe, yet stamped on your memory. Like goose bumps. A buzz.
From July 12-15, 2017 the classical music festival Sensus will make its debut in Liepāja and Ventspils, featuring international competition laureates and leading musicians from the Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and other European symphonic orchestras – Luiz Felipe Coelho, Marlene Ito, Joaquín Riquelme García, Sennu Laine, Gunārs Upatnieks, Anete Toča, Fabrice Millischer, Alexandre Baty, Egils Upatnieks, Guntis Kuzma, Gustavo Núñez, Agnese Egliņa and others. The festival will offer several chamber music concerts as well as two symphonic music concerts, conducted by Karel Mark Chichon.
The festival will be held at two concert halls – Lielais dzintars in Liepāja as well as at Jūras vārti in Ventspils. It’s interesting to note that the idea of the festival arose at Lielais dzintars – a concert hall, whose visit always entails a journey of unprecedented feelings. In the autumn of 2015, the world’s leading orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker musician Gunārs Upatnieks, along with his colleagues, helped to unveil the new concert hall, and he was thrilled with the specific design and wonderful acoustics. As a result, he decided that the Liepāja concert hall was the right place to enliven the idea of a new kind of classical music festival in Latvia.
